A unique purpose is something people will advise having in a theoretical way (I did it in this post last year), but the emotional reality of a singular vision is harder than it looks. When you’re focused on something few others are thinking about, you find yourself constantly making the case to yourself and others that your vision is worth pursuing and worthy of other people’s attention. This ongoing need to justify your work creates a significant emotional overhead.
Hi, Yancey. I love this. I've been trying something along the same lines with a Substack record label idea that is basically the same concept- called "LaBelaBel". It's mainly about creating solidarity without hierarchy and trying to collaborate in some fun ways. Any way that we can join forces or talk more? Here's the post with some more info. https://miter.substack.com/p/signing-a-dotted-linelabelabel
I continue to appreciate your 1-of-1 thinking, writing and courageously living it out Yancey. I'm enjoying doing the 1-of-1 thing, nudging and building a creative ecosystem. Here, here to a Creative Era!
truly inspiring. thanks for sharing these words. and building in public 🙏

Thanks Yancey. It's been a joy to investigate Metalabel and Bentoism this morning, following your note about 1-1 purpose.
